Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from Unit 305 in Kearny joined with the Brownies, Juniors, and Cadettes of Girl Scout Troop 12503 to tour the headquarters of the Kearny Police Department on Friday night, October 6, 2017.
Officer John Grimm, Officer Steven Montanino, and Sergeant Adriano J. Marques, of the KPD Community Policing Unit, led the Scouts through the dispatch and records rooms to show where calls are received, units are deployed, and evidence stored. The Scouts viewed the jail cells and toured the garage that houses the fleet of patrol cars, bicycles, motorcycle, and boat that help officers protect Kearny residents and keep the town safe. This educational outing enabled Scouts to look at the computer inside a patrol vehicle. They also learned that, in addition to helping people in our community, they also rescue lost pets and help reunite them with their owners.
At the close of the tour, Officer John Grimm promoted each Scout to Junior Officer of the Kearny Police Department
The officers fielded questions posed by the Scouts and encouraged them to do well in school and remain active in Scouting to help prepare them for a potential future in law enforcement. At the close of the tour, Officer Grimm promoted each Scout to Junior Officer of the Kearny Police Department.
